Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Qigong exercise on reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study population consisted of all hypertensive patients in the Villa Japos Blok N1 RW 014 area, Ciledug, Tangerang City, Banten. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood pressure measurements were conducted before (pretest) and after (posttest) the intervention using a standardized sphygmomanometer. The results showed a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure following the Qigong exercise intervention. Data analysis was performed using the paired-samples t-test for normally distributed data or the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for non-normally distributed data, with a significance level of 0.05. The analysis demonstrated a statistically significant effect of Qigong exercise on reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients. This study concluded that Qigong exercise may serve as a complementary therapy to support hypertension management by contributing to blood pressure.
