Abstract

Cultural continuity increasingly depends on educational approaches that connect local knowledge with meaningful learning processes. In the Amarasi community of Kupang Regency, Gong Timor music embodies values of social solidarity, respect, responsibility, and cultural identity; however, its educational potential has not been systematically integrated with contemporary learning theories. This study aimed to formulate a conceptual model that integrates cognitive theory, constructivism, and ethnopedagogy in Gong Timor music learning. A qualitative conceptual approach was employed through a literature review of books, journal articles, and previous studies related to learning theories, traditional music, local wisdom, and Amarasi cultural practices. The collected materials were analyzed using content analysis involving concept identification, categorization, comparison, and theoretical synthesis. The findings indicated that cognitive theory explained learners’ understanding of rhythmic patterns, musical structures, and symbolic meanings, whereas constructivism explained knowledge construction through observation, imitation, participation, and social interaction. Ethnopedagogy contextualized these processes by positioning local wisdom and cultural values as primary learning resources. The integration of these perspectives resulted in a holistic learning model that connects learners’ prior experiences and community contexts with musical understanding, practical skills, character development, and cultural identity formation. The study concluded that Gong Timor can serve as a contextual learning medium that bridges cultural practices and formal education while supporting sustainable intergenerational cultural transmission.
