Cuing Environment dan Harmony dalam Internalisasi Nilai Toleransi di Madrasah : What and How?

Abstract

This research examined the role of the cuing environment and harmony in addressing increasing cases of student intolerance in the digital era through the internalization of tolerance values. The study applied the IDC (Interest-Driven Creation) Habit Loop theory framework to provide an overview of tolerance value internalization at MTsN 3 Sidoarjo. The purpose of this research was to analyze the role of the cuing environment and harmony in the internalization of tolerance values through the habituation of religious activities using a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings showed that the cuing environment functioned as a trigger for tolerant behavior through supportive physical, social, and temporal dimensions. Meanwhile, harmony acted as an intrinsic reinforcement mechanism, where these two IDC components worked synergistically to create affective satisfaction within the habit loop process. The physical dimension was reflected in mosque layouts, visual posters, and structured activity schedules; the social dimension was demonstrated through teacher role modeling and respectful interactions; and the temporal dimension was represented by consistent patterns of activities. Harmony operated through affective, cognitive, social, and spiritual dimensions, collectively strengthening the internalization process. In conclusion, the internalization of tolerance values occurred through the synergy between the cuing environment as an external trigger and harmony as an intrinsic reinforcer, resulting in sustainable tolerant character development embedded in students’ daily behaviors.
