Busana merupakan kata serapan dari bahasa sanskerta, bhusana. Di dalam bahasa Jawa kata busana disebut busono.
Tujuan: menemukan gambaran normatif tentang penamaan serta konteks makna secara budaya.
Metode: kualitatif. Menurut Bogdan san Taylor (dalam Mamik, 2015: 4), penelitian kualitatif menghasilkan data-data deskriptif berupa kata tertulis maupun verba dari manusia atau tingkah laku yang diamati.
Hasil: Kebaya janggan merupakan busana abdi dalem perempuan (estri) Kraton Yogyakarta yang bentuknya menyerupai surjan (busana abdi dalem laki-laki di lingkungan Kraton Yogyakarta).
